Blennerhasset Island, an
island on theOhio River below the mouth of theLittle Kanawha River , is located near Parkersburg in Wood County,West Virginia . Historically it was an Indian settlement, was first known as Backus Island for Elijah Backus who purchased it in1792 . Now it is named forHarman Blennerhassett , a figure in theAaron Burr treason conspiracy, who purchased the north end of the island in1798 .
