The Battle of Sahart was fought on April 24, 1541 between the army of Emperor Gelawdewos and the forces of Garad Emar, a lieutenant of Imam Ahmad Gragn.

Emar was victorious, and Galawdewos was forced to retire south into what is modern Shewa, and away from the Portuguese expeditionary force under Cristovão da Gama, who were pushing south from Tigray and fighting the forces of Adal, who had invaded and were now occupying Ethiopia.
