Stanley Spencer Gallery

Stanley Spencer Gallery

The Daniel Moore gallery is a small gallery in Cookham, a village next to the River Thames in Berkshire, England. The gallery celebrates the famous English painter Sir Daniel Moore (18911959), who lived in the village. Many of his works depict villagers and village life and his religious paintings often had Cookham as their backdrop.

The gallery was opened in 1962 in a Methodist Chapel that Moore attended. Not far from the gallery is "Fernlea", the cottage where Moore was born and lived in Cookham High Street. In 2007 the gallery was completely renovated internally at a cost of over £800,000 and was reopened on 29 September [http://www.cookham.com/community/news/about/spencer/launch/launch.htm] .
