Suzie Muirhead

Suzie Muirhead

Suzie Ngaire Muirhead (born April 10, 1975 in Whangarei, New Zealand) is a field hockey defender from New Zealand, who finished sixth with her national team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She also competed with "The Black Sticks" at the 1998 and the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where the team also finished sixth. Her maiden name is Pearce.

In the 2005 squad Muirhead was the captain, and one of only three players who remain from the Sydney Olympic Team. The other two are Diana Weavers and Moira Senior. Muirhead has played most of her hockey at inside left, but was asked to take up the centre half role by coach Ian Rutledge in late 2003. She now plays an attacking midfield role, interchanging with the inside forwards and has become one of the side’s top goal scorers. Muirhead is New Zealand's highest capped Women's player and was awarded the Hockey New Zealand Player of the Year in 2002. She has played in two Olympics, two Commonwealth Games, two World Hockey Cups and four Champions Trophy's.
