Cedar River National Grassland

Cedar River National Grassland is a National Grassland located in Sioux County and Grant County in southern North Dakota, United States. It has a land area of 6,717 acres (10.5 sq mi, or 27.18 km²). [ [http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/lar/2007/TABLE_6.htm Table 6 - NFS Acreage by State, Congressional District and County] - United States Forest Service - September 30, 2007] The portion in Sioux County lies within the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Within the grassland are topographic features such as level plains and rolling hills. Dry streams and some small flowing streams exist throughout the Grasslands. The book "Plants of the Grand River and Cedar River National Grasslands:2008" is now available from the Ranger District Office in Lemmon, SD, Supervisor's Office in Bismarck, ND or downloadable from the DPG's website as a PDF file (2.4 MB). It was written by Kurt Hansen. The book is based fieldwork conducted by Chris Kopp as a Master's thesis work from SDSU. Kurt added additional species not found during initial surveys due to drought conditions.

The grassland is administered by the Forest Service as part of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands from offices in Bismarck, North Dakota. There are local ranger district offices (shared with Grand River National Grassland) in Lemmon, South Dakota.
