Trout Lake in the interior of British Columbia is a ribbon lake located south-east of Revelstoke. At the north end is Trout Lake City which in the early 1900s was a mining boom town. It now has only a handful of permanent residents and a growing number of cabin owners that come for the holidays, many from Calgary. At the other end of the lake is the now abandoned town of Gerrard, the spawning ground of Gerrard Trout.

Trout Lake is known for its fishing (primarily Dolly Varden trout, and kokanee salmon) and the snowmobiling in the surrounding hills, which is reportedly some of the best in the world. Halcyon Hot springs are located approximately 30 minutes away on Highway 31 (later 23). The Windsor Hotel and a gas station-convenience store are located within Trout Lake City. A coffee shop/cafe, the No-Board Cafe opened in 2006 in Trout Lake City. Long term residents do most of their grocery shopping in Nakusp, the nearest town, about 45 minutes away.
