Felliscliffe is a
civil parish inNorth Yorkshire ,England , inNidderdale , Harrogate borough. It is an ancient Nidderdale township, first mentioned in theDomesday Book as 'Fyle's gyffe', later, 'Felagh's cliff' from the Old Norse.It is about four miles south-west of Ripley and seven miles from
Knaresborough , close to the village of Hampsthwaite outside the spa town ofHarrogate . The parish includes the village of Kettlesing and part of the US intelligence-gathering base atMenwith Hill .The parish served the nearby
Fountains Abbey withflax , with monastery paths leading alongTang Beck - a tributary of theRiver Nidd - still in existence. Traces of Iron Age and Roman settlements have been discovered in the parish, indicating that it has been inhabited continuously for several millennia.
