Sharan Burrow

Born to a family with strong trade union involvement, Burrow became a teacher in the early 1980s, which allowed her to become involved in the New South Wales Teachers Federation. She later became president of the Bathurst Trades and Labor Council. Before becoming ACTU president she was also president of the Australian Education Union (AEU) in 1992. Currently she also holds a position in the International Labour Organisation (ILO). She is also the current president of the International Centre for Trade Union Rights (ICTUR)] as well as the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), having been elected its first female president in 2004.Burrow is also the first president of the newly formed International Trade Union Confederation]
