- Temasek Academy
Temasek Academy is a 4-year
Integrated Programme initiated byTemasek Junior College inSingapore . Singapore students are admitted at the age of 15, after experiencing two years of secondary school life in their various secondary schools. Foreign students are also invited to join the programme. The programme had its first intake of 121 students in 2005, 143 students in 2006, 99 students in 2007 and 65 students in 2008. Students in this programme sit for the GCE A-Levels at the end of the four years. Students also take the GCE O-Level Higher Mother Tongue exam at the end of the second year.
There are currently 5 Civics Groups (CG) in IP Year 4, 5 in Year 3, 4 in Year 2, 3 in Year 1 (more commonly known as TA1s, TA2s, TA3s, TA4s). Civics Groups are affectionately addressed with a 'TA' in front, and classes are labeled with alphabets, together with the year of admission. Eg. TA3C05. From 2008 onwards, in order to integrate the Temasek Academy classes with the new JC1 cohort, the Year 3 classes are no longer labelled as eg TA3D06, but CG0408. CGs 0108 to 0508 are the IP classes. The IP Year 4 classes are still labelled with a 'TA' in front of their classes. e.g. TA4A05.
Teaching Style
Unlike the conventional teacher-oriented style of teaching, Temasek Academy encourages students to learn beyond mere academics. With the new "Teach Less, Learn More" method as supported by the Ministry of Education, students are expected to initiate research projects, ask tutors for clarification if there is any doubt, and be a self-disciplined learner, instead of having tutors to "spoonfeed" students.
The Academy strongly recommends the use of Tablet PCs in aid of learning. Since the College is already covered with wireless access to the Internet, students can conduct research and view the materials that tutors have uploaded on the e-learning portal (known as the MaTrix) during classes.
Council Pledge
"We, the Students' Council of the Temasek Academy, pledge our loyalty to the TASC, to represent the Temasek Academy student body, to be the voice of the population and to uphold the rights of the students. We work not for ourselves, but for others, and our reward is in what we accomplish."Fact|date=February 2007
