Aurangabad is a city and a municipality in Aurangabad district in the state of Bihar, India. Aurangabad (pop. 118,052 [http://gov.bih.nic.in/Profile/Districts/Aurangabad.htm] ) is the district headquarters of the aurangabad district. It is situated on the Grand Trunk Road. The people of this region primarily speak Magahi.Aurangabad has also good rice and wheat mandis with immense produce.

History

The Magadh region was one of the oldest and strongest empires of the world in the Ancient period and its boundaries (600-250 BC) spread across to parts of the (now present) countries of Burma, Pakistan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh, apart from India. This was the region about Megasthenes (3rd Century BC), a Greek writer, traveller and scholar wrote with much awe and inspiration about his empire and the people.

Aurangabad is one of the 38 districts of Bihar. It has two sub divisions Aurangabad and Daud Nagar. The blocks are Madanpur, Kutumbba, Daudnagar, Aurangabad, Barun, Obra, Dev, Nabinagar, Haspura, Goh and Rafiganj.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Aurangabad had a population of 79,351. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Aurangabad has an average literacy rate of 30%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 48% of the males and 22% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

OBRA

Obra a small town of population appx 30000 is the Block headquarter of Obra block. It is 16 km from Aurangabad situated on NH-98. The place is world famous for its Kaleen(Carpets). Tradition of Kaleen weaving since 15th century and currently managed by government, known as Kaleen Udhyog. The main kaleen industry is setup in near by villagae known koriepur.A blanket processing unit is also in working position. Obra the name comes from the word Urwara(fertile), is a big Mandi(market) of Rice.

Obra is also famous for Dumuhani Mela. Dumuhani mela is a traditional fair held every year on the bank of Punpun river at junction of Punpun river and Adri river. Dumuhani Mela is famous for animal (cows, bafflow, bullocks etc) trades.

Obra is also a very holistic place of Hindu for pritipaksh after Gaya. The town is situated on the bank of river Punpun,a holy river.

It is well connected through raillway and roads. NH-2,Grant Trunk(G.T.)Road is just 16 km away and NH-98 is passes through the town.In the same way Delhi-Howra Grand Chord section is also passes through and the near by station is Anuhgrah Narayan Road just 4 km away. More than 3 dozens of trains stop there and connect Obra with rest of the India.

Near by Airport is Bodhgaya international airport is 102 km far away.
