Peace & Freedom Press

Peace & Freedom Press are a British small press, founded by Paul Rance in 1985. Peace & Freedom magazine, also launched in 1985, remains its oldest title, and was originally a poetry and music fanzine. Early issues featured the likes of Chumbawamba, Paul McCartney, Wilfred Owen, and, oddly, Nick Berry, when he was in EastEnders. Peace & Freedom magazine evolved into a more poetry orientated publication, and now also contains the odd short story and essay.

A second title, Eastern Rainbow, was launched in 1992 as a "20th century arts and culture mag". Consisting of poetry, short stories, articles, artwork, and photography relating to the 20th century, it has featured articles on Martin Luther King, Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, George Best, Kurt Cobain, Judy Garland, George Orwell, Doctor Who, Star Trek, and The Prisoner.

In 1995, Peace & Freedom Press began to publish paperback anthologies of poetry, prose, and art, beginning with a collection of humorous verse and art, entitled "A Laugh A Stanza". This publication was followed the next year by a collection of poetry and art entiled "Blue + Green".

Since the turn of the century Peace & Freedom Press have published "Millennium Memories" - a collection looking back to the past millennium and forward to the next; "Planet Of Love" - a book dealing with the many aspects of love, spiritual, physical, love of family, friends and pets, love of nature, and love of life and living; "The Magic Of Animals" - all about the magic of animals, from the worm to the whale; "Science Friction" - a diverse collection of sci-fi poetry, prose and art; "Reigning Cats & Dogs" - an anthology saluting cats and dogs; "My Gun Is Bigger Than Your Gun" - a powerful paperback of poetry, prose and art all about war; "Green Vibrations" - an anthology of poetry, prose and art covering the wonders of nature, the beauty of animals, and environmental and animal welfare issues. Smaller anthologies have included two non-paperback booklets, both collections of dinosaur poetry and dinosaur illustrations.
