Mandra (Greek: Μάνδρα, meaning "yard"), is a town and municipality in the central part of West Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Mandra-Eidyllia, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit.[1]

Mandra is part of the Athens metropolitan area. Mandra is located about 25 km northwest of Athens, about 5 km north of Elefsina, ENE of Corinth and southeast of SSE of Thiva. It has mild summers and fairly cold winters. The town’s population was 10,947 at the 2001 census. It is known for its big industrial zone. Mandra is bypassed by the GR-3 (Elefsina - Thiva). The area around Mandra has farmlands located near the boundary with Magoula. There are mountains including Pateras to the west and to the north. The municipal unit of Mándra has a land area of 205.770 km² and a population of 12,792 inhabitants. The municipal unit also includes the villages of Ágios Sotír (pop. 496), Néa Zoí (443), Palaiochóri (356), Diódia (174), Pournári (174), and several smaller settlements.

Economy

The industrial area of Elefsina lies to the south while residential buildings lies to the north. Prior to the 1970s, agriculture was the predominant industry in Mandra. Housing developments arrived in the 1970s.
