Attractions

Waltham's attractions include Waltham Windmill, which is used as the symbol for the village's Infant and Junior schools. The windmill was originally built in 1666, [ [http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bazzer3/HISTORYx.html History ] ] but was blown down several times. It was last re-built in 1873. [ [http://www.walthamwindmill.co.uk/page2.html Waltham Windmill Preservation Society ] ] The village is also home to two pubs, namely The Kings Head [ [http://pubsinthearea.ukvillages.co.uk/pubs_around/Barnoldby+le+Beck-North+East+Lincolnshire Barnoldby le Beck-North East Lincolnshire Pubs, Barnoldby le Beck Local Pubs, beer, bars, Eating out ] ] and the Tilted Barrel, as well as to the Waltham Tea Gardens. A branch of the British Legion is also based in Waltham.

The village is home to a cenotaph, where a remembrance service is held on Remembrance Sunday.

Nearby is the former World War II bomber airfield RAF Grimsby, [ [http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bazzer3/INFOx.html INFO ] ] which was originally the Grimsby Municipal Airport. After the start of WWII the airport was re-constructed by the Air Ministry and became home to 142 Squadron then later on to 100 Squadron and 550 Squadron [ [http://airfieldarchaeology.fotopic.net/c707113.html RAF Grimsby (Waltham), Lincolnshire :: Fotopic.Net ] ] before closing in 1945. A museum at the Waltham Windmill houses a sectiondedicated to RAF Grimsby.

There was once a Waltham railway station on a now closed line between Grimsby and Louth. [British Railways Atlas.1947. p.17]
