"Up on the Sun" is the third album by the Meat Puppets, released in 1985 by SST Records. In 1999 the album was reissued on Rykodisc with bonus tracks and recording notes.

Whereas their first album was an unrehearsed punk/thrash assault, and their second was a somewhat ragged but splendid country-punk milestone, Up on the Sun sees the band relaxing a little, and even though it maintains quite a raw feel, there are passages of rather startling musicianship (even if the Kirkwoods hadn't gotten around to singing completely in tune yet), and the record is certainly no less surreal than its predecessors. It is sometimes compared with the Grateful Dead, though The Dead were probably never as tongue-in-cheek or strange as this. Fact|date=July 2008
