Stokke is a municipality in the county of Vestfold, Norway. Stokke is also the name of the municipality's administrative centre.

Stokke was established as a municipality January 1 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Two islands were later transferred from Stokke to Nøtterøy: Håøya (1901) and Veierland (1964).

The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Stokke (Norse "Stokkar"), since the first church was built here. The name is the plural form of "stokkr" m 'log'. (This is probably referring to some small hills/ridges near the churchsite.)

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1984). It shows three logs (timber). (See above under information of the name.)

(See also the coat-of-arms of Nes and Søndre Land.)
