Osbourn Seamount Location Location South Pacific Ocean Geology Type Guyot Volcanic arc/chain Louisville seamount chain Age of rock 77.3 million years Osbourn Seamount is the oldest seamount in the Louisville seamount chain, with an estimated age of 77.3 million years.[1] It lies at the westernmost end of the chain and its flat-topped summit is strewn with fault lines. Like the rest of the Louisville seamount chain, it was formed by the Louisville hotspot.
Osbourn Seamount will eventually be destroyed by subduction by the Tonga and Kermadec trenches once it is carried into the trenches by the ongoing plate motion, although this will not fully occur for several million more years if the current rate of motion is maintained.
