OneTick

OneTick

OneTick is a tick database management software solution developed by OneMarketData. It is an out-of-the-box, enterprise-wide software product designed to address the market’s need for intraday data collection, archiving, retrieval, analytics and complex event processing (CEP) across a wide spectrum of users from various departments.

OneTick was designed specifically to address the requirements of the financial sector and differs from other databases used in finance because it does not require knowledge of any programming language to build and run real-time streaming and historical data queries. [1]

The need for high-performance tick databases continues to grow as traders continue to move towards electronic and algorithmic trading. Additionally, new best execution requirements driven by Reg. NMS[2] and MiFID[3] have increased the need for institutions to manage large amounts of real-time data in transparent environments that adhere to new compliance requirements. As such, tick databases such as OneTick have become more popular and important within the financial technology landscape.[4]

History

OneTick was launched in 2005 by Leonid Frants, Ph.D., who has spent more than 15 years building enterprise financial data management systems for statistical arbitrage, algorithmic trading and program trading departments of Goldman Sachs.

After building the financial data management system to support the quantitative data needs for the entire sell side of Goldman Sachs, he founded OneMarketData to build OneTick, a commercial platform that would become a single point solution to tick data management and analytics in financial institutions.[5]

Today, OneTick is used by more than 35 financial institutions spanning the buy-side and sell-side. Customers include Barclays Global Investors, Standard Chartered Bank, Wolverine Trading, Man Investments and more.

Key features

OneTick processes millions of ticks per second on one CPU and archives billions of ticks per day. It can handle rising data volumes and real-time data rates, while servicing multiple concurrent user queries on large datasets. OneTick also collects every tick for all asset classes, including equities, fixed income, futures, FX, options and full order book data. It stores and analyzes all kinds of data uniformly, including tick data, reference data and elementized news.

Through OneTick’s built-in CEP engine, users can write code only one time for real-time and historical data analysis, as well as implement live signal generation for strategies that require streaming and historical data without extra coding.

OneTick standardizes and cleanses data through its built-in data concept handling for corrects/cancels, corporate actions, symbol maps and continuity, and futures rolls/exchange calendars.

OneTick includes a powerful GUI for visualization and intuitive built-in business logic for query building and analysis. It allows users to run queries and analytics on both real-time streaming and historical data, and comes with more than 80 preprogrammed functions including VWAP and time-weighted spread. OneTick also includes real-time and historical feed handlers to many popular market data providers.[6]

Awards

OneMarketData was awarded the Inside Market Data award for Best Contract Win of the Year for its deal for OneTick with Barclays Global Investors in 2009.[7]
