Contents
Background
Incumbent Governor Ted Strickland won election in 2006 over Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell by a margin of 60-37%.[1] In early 2010, Strickland announced he would seek a second term and will be challenged by former Republican Congressman John Kasich, who had been competitive against Strickland in recent polling.[2]
Since 1978, Governors and Lieutenant Governors have been elected on the same ticket. The list of candidates below includes gubernatorial candidates, followed by their respective running mates. Ted Strickland has chosen Yvette McGee Brown as his running mate, as current Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher is running for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator George Voinovich against Rob Portman. John Kasich picked Mary Taylor as his running mate. On May 4, 2010, Strickland and Kasich officially won their party's nomination after both candidates ran unopposed in their respective primary.
