Operations Research Society of South Africa

The Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA) is South Africa's national, professional body for operations research. Founded in 1969, its aim is to further the interests of those engaged in, or interested in the discipline. Its president is Sarma Yadavalli (University of Pretoria).

ORSSA's activities include drawing up guidelines for operations research education at Universities in South Africa, presenting short courses, and providing information to the public on the nature of operations research and on career opportunities.

Each year, the society awards the Tom Rozwadowski medal for the best paper published by a member. The medal is named after one of the founder members of ORSSA. Long-standing members of ORSSA may become fellows of the society on invitation.

ORiON is ORSSA's official journal and is published biannually. The society also publishes a quarterly newsletter.
