Early and personal life

Natalija Kostić was born on 25 July 1994 in Niš (then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, now Serbia), to father Đorđe and mother Sonja. Kostić's father was a tennis player himself, and now is her coach. Both her sisters, Emilija and Marija, used to play tennis.[5]

Junior career

Kostić began playing at junior circuit in 2008. She participated at the prestigious tournament Orange Bowl in 2009, losing to Ajla Tomljanović 6–4, 6–1 in the first round,[6] and 2010, when she retired from her semifinals match against Grace Min.[7] Kostić made her Grand Slam debut at the 2010 French Open, where she was defeated in second round.[8]

At the 2011 Australian Open, Kostić lost in the first round.[9] She would, however, reach the quarterfinals at the 2011 French Open, where she was beaten by Mónica Puig 6–1, 6–3.[10] Kostić was then defeated in the first round of the 2011 US Open.[11] As a junior player, she won several tournaments and was ranked World No. 5.[3] In June 2011, Kostić stated her wish was to focus on senior tournaments after the 2011 US Open.[12]
