NIIT Technologies Limited (BSE532541) is a global information technology solutions organization, servicing customers in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. It offers solutions focused around Applications Development and Management, Managed Services, Cloud Computing, Packaged Implementation and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange of India. The erstwhile software and services business of the NIIT Group,[5] NIIT Technologies has an experience of over two-and-a-half decades in the software sector. It was spun off from the NIIT Group in 2004, and has been operating as a separate entity since then.[6]

History

For at least 15 years of its history, NIIT Technologies remained the software and services arm of the NIIT Group, providing software consultancy support, customized solutions as well as product distribution services to corporate India as well as global customers. The business operated under the umbrella of NIIT Ltd., which was set up in 1981 by two young entrepreneurs, Rajendra S. Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani, old friends and dorm-mates from the IIT, Delhi.[7]

Overview

NIIT Technologies is ranked among India's top 20 information technology software service exporters, according to NASSCOM’s Annual Surveys. It follows global standards of development, and has been assessed at Level 5 of both SEI-CMMi version 1.2 [8][9] and People-CMM frameworks. The organization has the ISO 27001 information security management certification and its data center operations are at the international ISO 20000 IT management standards. NIIT Technologies is focused on select industry verticals and provides solutions to organizations in these segments.

Acquisitions

  • It has acquired German based company Softech, which serves small and medium airlines operations.[10]
  • NIIT Technologies also acquired UK-based company ROOM Solution late in 2006-2007.[11][12]
  • NIIT Technologies acquired Proyecta Sistemas in Aug 2011[13]

It has three Indian subsidiaries, NIIT SmartServe Limited, NIIT Technologies Services Limited and NIIT GIS Limited, which provide business process outsourcing and GIS solutions, respectively.[14]
