National Institute of Family and Life Advocates

The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) is an American 501(c)(3) charitable organization.[1][2] Founded in 1993, it is based in Fredericksburg, Virginia.[2] The organization provides legal advice to over 1200 crisis pregnancy centers (also called pregnancy resource centers) within its membership network.[2][3] Crisis pregnancy centers are a part of the pro-life movement and exist to "talk women out of having [an abortion]" sometimes using questionable practices to achieve this goal.[4]

NIFLA provides legal services to CPCs in an attempt to enable them to avoid legal issues in their operations; they also provide aid to CPCs that wish to convert to licensed medical clinics.[citation needed] 700 of their members are clinics who utilize ultrasounds.[citation needed] Hundreds of CPCs have become medical clinics through NIFLA's Life Choice Project.[unreliable source?][5]

Its founder and president is Thomas Glessner.[6] NIFLA provides legal council to PRCs as well as medical training, having trained over 2,000 nurses in ultrasound use. NIFLA publishes two monthly newsletters aimed at PRCs, Legal Tips and Clinic Tips as well as a quarterly publication, The Life Sentinel.[citation needed] NIFLA also works through an insurance company to secure insurance for PRCs, maternity homes and pregnancy resource medical clinics.[7]
