Amit Bando is Executive Director of the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation Secretariat.[1][2]
During his career as a policy scientist at the United States Department of Energy and an international consultant, Bando has worked in over 60 nations to promote innovative financing[3] of clean energy initiatives and climate change mitigation/adaptation options.[4] In the past five years alone, he has programmed over $1.5 billion worldwide. In addition, he has helped establish the Chicago Climate Exchange, led the development of the US National Energy Modeling System (NEMS)[5] and represented the USA at the Rio Earth Summit as well as at other ministerial forum on energy efficiency,[6] climate change and the environment. He has developed several widely used monitoring and evaluation tools for low-carbon initiatives.[7]
As an entrepreneur, Bando has founded an international management advisory firm,[8][9]currently operating with a $50 million (annual) portfolio of projects [10] in urban infrastructure development, institutional reform,[11] governance, micro-finance, and environmental project implementation. In the USA, his pioneering efforts have provided greater access to clean technology alternatives among minority populations.[12] In addition, he has founded the Center for Econometric Modeling and Forecasting (CEMAF) -- a for-profit research institution working on US-Mexico border issues.[13]
Bando has published[14][15][16] on the economic evaluation of environmental impacts and presented numerous workshops[17][18][19][20][21][22] on investment finance[23] and environmental management[24] has helped private sector entities understand development-financing issues and has designed/implemented training programs[25] for agencies such as the ADB,[26][27] World Bank, USAID,[28][29] NASA,[30] USEPA and the USDOE.[31] Working with legal experts, Bando often testifies on the economic implications of regulations on energy and the environment.[32][33]
Earlier in his career, Bando taught at the Universities of Chicago, Minnesota and Illinois, and New Mexico State University. He completed his graduate and post-graduate studies in Economics and Statistics at the University of Minnesota, Delhi School of Economics and St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Currently based in Paris,[34] he has lived and worked in India, USA and Kenya.[citation needed]
