Moutonnee Lake

Moutonnee Lake

Moutonnee Lake (70°52′S 68°20′W / 70.867°S 68.333°W / -70.867; -68.333) is a sea lake marginal to George VI Ice Shelf, 4 nautical miles (7 km) south of Ablation Point on the east side of Alexander Island. Following limnological and tidal studies by British Antarctic Survey (BAS) from 1971, it was so named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) from the presence of roches moutonnees (sheep back rocks) on its shores.
