Monroe Bank and Trust (MBT, NASDAQMBTF) is a community financial institution headquartered in Monroe, Michigan, USA, with branch locations throughout Southeast Michigan. MBT is owned by MBT Financial Corp, (a holding company).

History

Founded as Dansard State Bank by Benjamin Dansard and Louis Lafountain in 1859, the company changed names after one year to Dansard & Son Bank and moved to its current location at the corner of Front and Washington Street.

The company merged with the Monroe State Savings Bank in 1940. The Monroe name was kept and the company continued operations from Dansard's location.

The company changed its name in 1968 to Monroe Bank and Trust.

Expansion

In recent times, MB&T has expanded north into the Downriver part of Wayne County with branches known as "MB&T Downriver". In October 2008, MBT acquired the deposits of the former Main Street Bank and now also serves the communities of Plymouth and Northville.
