Mizpa Pentecostal University

Mizpa Pentecostal University is a theological university located in San Juan, Puerto Rico lead and administrated by the Pentecostal Church of God, International Movement of Puerto Rico Region. Founded in 1937, is the oldest theological school of pentecostalism in Puerto Rico.

History

When the Pentecostal Church of God Pentecostal, I.M. came of age as an ethnic church, to turn 21, he founded the Colegio Pentecostal Mizpah with the name of Mizpah Bible Institute in 1937. The Rev. Juan L. Lugo had the foresight to establish a theological school in order to train and empower the ministers summoned by God to serve in his work. This was the first Pentecostal missionary to reach the land of Borinquen and eventually the first president of the Pentecostal Church of God, Inc. conducted a series of efforts to implement the first Pentecostal theological school in Puerto Rico, America Street number 10 Santurce, in the facilities of the Pentecostal Church of God, International Movement. They were transferred to the municipality of Bayamon in the neighborhood of Pajaros. In 1956, he moved to the Las Cumbres Avenue Road 199, Neighborhood Caimito in Rio Piedras, where its currently located. The first fruits of the Bible Institute Mizpa today the Mizpa Pentecostal University were collected on January 9, 1939, when 12 students constituted the first graduating class. In 69 years of service to the community of faith that institution has graduated more than 6 000 students from various academic programs. The absolute number of ministers of the Pentecostal Church of God, I. M. are graduates who are working in various leadership positions in Puerto Rico and abroad. Currently the college community is represented by more than 13 denominations sisters.

Institute in the form of the College had 12 directors, ministers of God who gave his theological direction, even in the most tempestuous hour. These ministers are: Rev. Fr. Juan L. Lugo, Reverend. Jose M, Martinez (3 times), Rev. Fr. Benigno Colon, Reverend. Luis C. Otero, Reverend. Ramon Muniz (2 times), Mis. Matilde Roman, Reverend. Juan Caban (2 times), Rev. Fr. Eleuterio Feliciano, Reverend. Esmeraldo Cruz, Reverend. David Ramos, Rev. Joseph O. Santos and Dr. Sara Ramos Cartagena.

The eighties marked dramatically the development of theological education of the Pentecostal Church of God, I. M. In 1981, establishing the Pentecostal Seminary of Puerto Rico (SEPRI) to offer university-level education with associates and bachelors degrees. What was its president Dr. Rubén Pérez until 1985. In 1985, SEPRIO and Mizpah Bible Institute merged with the Pentecostal College name Mizpah. The College has had five presidents: Dr. Ramón Muñiz, Reverend. Reinaldo Arroyo, Dr. Naomi Rose, Rev. Luis R. Cruz and Rev. Daniel Cruz Olivera since May 2003. A the early nineties in the accreditation process the school was admitted as "Applicant" by the "Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges (AABC), today" The Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). Accreditation Agency is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education United States of America. The college was elevated to the status of "Accreditation Candidate" in February 1997, which validates the programs, degrees and diplomas conferred by the institution. In February 2001, received the status "Initial Accreditation."

In February 2006, the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) reaffirmed the accreditation of the College for the next ten years. This is a great historic achievement that reaffirms the quality and academic excellence of the curriculum. The result is a product of the contribution and efforts of an extraordinary team of men and women committed to the education ministry, since the start of school until the present.

It has designed various academic programs and study options for men and women of God who feels the responsibility for education to serve effectively in church ministry. At present they offer three certificates: Chaplaincy, Christian Education and Ministerial Arts (20 centers across the island), four associate degrees: Christian Education, Christian Counseling, Pastoral Theology and Missiology, and three high schools: Pastoral Theology, Christian Education and Research Bible. Also offer courses Professional Improvement to all pastors who are promoted by the Church of God Pentecostal, M. I. in Puerto Rico. In San Juan campus students have the opportunity to receive Pell Grants and federal aid Title IV program, if they qualify.
