The Military Classic of the South is an American football rivalry game played between The Citadel Bulldogs and the VMI Keydets. Although the teams first played in 1920, the trophy that is currently awarded, the Silver Shako, was introduced later in 1976.[2] The series has been played nearly continuously since World War II, only missing 1956, 2004, and 2008–10. The Citadel has won the past five meetings, and leads the series 35-30-2. At one point in 1967, the Keydets led the series 18-8-1. The Military Classic is the 13th oldest still-played rivalry in what is currently known as the FCS (formerly Division I-AA).
