Michel Clérié

Michel Clérié (born September 28, 1947) is a Haitian senator[1] for the district of the Grand'Anse area. He is a member of the finance, industry, tourism, and public works committees.

Biography

Clérié was born in Haiti, and attended school in Saint Louis De Gonzague; he later attended College Roger Anglade, and studied business in New York. Clérié was involved in the fishing industry; while operating his company he was active in political circles and social work. He was declared winner of the senatorial election in 2005, and was widely supported by the peasants and fishermen. His father, Guy, was in the army and ranked captain; his mother, Ginette Laroche, is the daughter of an aristocratic family of the northern part of the country (Cap Haitian). He married Joelle Baker.

He was trapped in rubble at the senate following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, but was found alive after six hours and transport to the Dominican Republic for surgery.[citation needed]
