Metaverse Mod Squad

The Metaverse Mod Squad is a private firm which provides moderation, activities, community management, and customer service to on-line social media, particularly those such as Webosaurs which serve children. In 2011 the firm had 115 employees who work as managers of 500 screened moderators working on contract who are deployed to moderate conduct and activities at online sites.^[1] The firm has a 24/7 operations center in Sacramento and an office with 35 employees in Brooklyn. Clients include Warner Bros., the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, the National Football League, Reel FX Entertainment, parent firm of Webosaurs, enVie Interactive, and the United States Department of State.^[2]

The founder and chief executive officer of the firm is Amy Pritchard, an attorney who lives in northern California. She had experience in after-school programs at an elementary school and as a forum moderator as well as litigation experience.^[3] She founded the firm in 2007 after noticing a lack of interesting activities at locations on Second Life. Hanging out with friends with moderation experience at The Thirsty Tiger, a virtual bar on Second Life, she engaged Mike Pinkerton, the creator of the bar who signed on as chief operating officer of the new firm which originally undertook to staff sites created on Second Life for corporations and to offer web forum moderation services.^[1]
