Bio

Mark Sadan began his work in art as an actor in his early twenties graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City[1].

As an experimental filmmaker he received two special screenings of his films in cine-probes at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Later, he was awarded a full scholarship to study at the Graduate Film and Television Institute of New York University. He produced short films for Sesame Street, and NBC television. After directing a documentary in Norway, Mark was invited to exhibit at the Preus Foto Museum and at this time made a decision to devote himself to photography as a means of expressing his passion and vision. This led to an exhibit on Norway at the World Trade Center.

His work has been featured in many leading photo magazines such as La Photographica from Spain, Zoom from Italy, Iris, Brazil, Nippon and Asahi in Japan, Scwarz/Weis, (Black & White) Germany, Foto-Forum, Norway. Articles

At Mark's most recent exhibition at the Juliet Margaret Cameron Trust and Galleries on the Isle of Wight, entitled "Shadows of Delight," Dr. Brian Hinton, Photo-Historian, Curator and Chairman of the Juliet Margaret Cameron Trust, wrote:

"Mark creates a dream world in which we would all love to live, a place of mystery, beauty and -- at times the chill of infinite. He is in direct line from the great Romantic poets, picturing the world seen whole by a child before the prison walls of experience begin to close down its sense of wonder. These luminous images images draw on many artists and writers -- Lewis Carroll, Bosch, Arthur Rackham, Burne-Jones, Victorian faery painters, Hollywood movies like Tron, William Blake --but somehow Sadan unites them into his own particular vision. ...the same vision energises Mark's extraordinary short films, in which some of these images are [set] to music, and again helping to create a dream world, which could also be life after death. Sadan's perfect sense of how to frame an image, his mastery of atmosphere, his delight in Nature and the human figure, are all present in this show..."(1 February 2011)
