List of publishers of books in Marathi

This is a list of Marathi book publishers. Marathi is one of the richest languages of India having a great literary tradition for more than last eight hundred years. This list may be incomplete as presently more than five hundred publishers are actively dealing in producing and publishing Marathi books every year. Some of these publishers are alphabetically listed below.

Continental Prakashan : Founded by Late Anantrao Kulkarni. Their books include most of the books by Chi Vi Joshi

Deshmukh & Co : Started by Raa Ja Deshmukh. This publication was the first to publish all the books by P L Deshpande. Their books also include 'Yayati' by Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar, 'Yugant' by Irawati Karve, 'Swami' & 'Shriman Yogi' by Ranjit Desai and 'Kosala' by Bhalchandra Nemade. Today they are publishing 8 to 10 books every year under the able leadership of Ravindra Godbole, the nephew of Ra Ja Deshmukh. Deshmukh shared special relationship with Vi Sa Khandekar.

Hans Prakashan : Late Anantrao Antarkar (b 1912 - d 1966). After him, Anand Antarkar (Anantrao's son) took over. From 1946 to 1989, HANS was a major literary monthly. Now it is published once every year as Diwali Ank.

Haribhau Mote Prakashan : Among its many excellent publications must be counted Vishrabdha Sharda's editions which are a collection of letters written by eminent Marathi people about their chosen fields.

Majestic Prakashan : Founded by Keshvarao Kothavale (1923–1993) with brother Tukaram. Now run by the next generation. Kothavale was close to G N Dandekar, and once MAJESTIC was founded, all of Dandekar's books were published by them. Keshavrao Kothavale was the editor of the monthly 'Lalit' in which the famous Thanthanpal column by Jaywant Dalvi had appeared. Majestic also publishes the prestigious magazine 'Deepavali' which started the tradition of special Diwali editions of marathi publications.

Mauj Prakashan or Mouj Prakashan Griha is a major (and arguably the most prestigious) publisher of Marathi books. The enterprise was started by brothers Shri Pu Bhagwat and Vi Pu Bhagwat. Ram Patwardhan has also helped guide fortunes of the enterprise.Bhagwat Brothers also published periodicals 'Mauj' and 'Satyakatha' which were later shut down due to lack of interest. The last issue of the weekly MAUJ was published on 31 July 1960.

Menaka Prakashan is one of the oldest publication house in Marathi. Founded by late P. V. Beheray, Menaka Prakashan has completed 50 years of its existence in 2010. Menaka has in its kitty some of the most popular books and magazines in Marathi as well as English. Menaka's periodicals like Menaka, Maher (both monthly) and Jatra (annual) are counted among the most popular magazines. World class design, good printing quality and excellent selection of topics has been a hallmark of Menaka Prakashan.

Mukta Publishing House : Founded by Mrs. Vijaya Patil. Established in the year 2005, it is based out of Kolhapur and Pune and has rapidly increased its reach in the state. Since the outset, they have focused on the quality and content of the books and published works of varied nature. There has been a detailed thought process behind every book that has been published. Some of their books are, Second Second, Bhakri saathi chakri, veez bachat, Maatimay, Ready Steady Go, etc. They also run Saptak Printing and Kitaab Corner (retail store).

Padmagandha Prakashan Founded by Shri Arun Jakhade. Established only in 1996, Padmagandha Prakshan has paved its way to being known as one of the most important and prestigious publications in Marathi. Today, Padmagandha Prakashan is unmatched with regards to Folk literature, Culture & Tradition and Literary Criticism. Notable biographies, autobiographies, Translations published by them have been quite popular although Poetry and Fiction have remained neglected to a small extent. Dr, R. C. Dhere, Dr. Ganesh Devy, Arun Sadhu have published their noteworthy works through Padmagandha Prakashan Padmagandha Prakashan's onus has been on providing the reader not just the best literature but an equally excellent production.

Parachure Prakashan : Founded by G.P.Parchure. They have published most of the books of P. K. Atre and Na Si Phadke and also some books by G A Kulkarni.

Popular Prakashan : Ramdas Bhatkal (b 1935). His brother Sadanand Bhatkal and brother-in-law Kumtha. A collection of Ramdas Bhatkal's Marathi articles is published under the name 'Jigsaw'.

Rajhans Prakashan : Majgaonkar family. They also published a periodical named 'Manoos'. Manoos was a monthly for some time, also bi-monthly, and weekly over another stretch of time. Shri Ga Majgaonkar was its editor from 1961 to 1986.

Rohan Prakashan : Rohan Prakashan was established in 1982 by late Shri.Manohar Champanerkar and Shri.Pradeep Champanerkar. Since inception Rohan has been into publishing of books in Marathi, touching upon several aspects of life, literature, social, political, individual health, arts and personal skills of various kinds etc. Rohan Prakashan aims to enrich our lives through the books, which can provide authentic information, knowledge guidance and a holistic perspective. Rohan Prakashan also publishes translated versions of noteworthy English books. It has launched its English Division, Rohan Books in 2008.

Snehavardhan Prakashan : Started by Dr Snehal Tawre has published more than 1000 books in Marathi. Number of prestigious awards inculuding Government of Maharashtra award for best book production. books also contain marathi text-books for Pune University. : snehavardhan@vsnl.net

Shrividya Prakashan : Founded by Madhukaka Kulkarni. They were the first to publish autobiographies of 'Dalit' writers. They were also first to publish a Marathi book abroad. They have also published autobiographies of Cine Artists like Leela Chitnis, Shanta Hublikar, Seema Deo etc. Their writers include Pu La Deshpande, Madhav Gadkari, Laxmanshastri Joshi, Aroon Tikekar, Ya Di Phadke, Laxman Gaikwad, Ramdas Phutane, Pha Mu Shinde, Harshad Sarpotdar etc.
