DuoArtus

DuoArtus, a professional flute and guitar duo, was founded in 2003 by Polish-born flute-player Krzysztof Kaczka and German-born guitar-player Perry Schack. It has since won international awards including the IBLA Grand Prize and the NFA Chamber Music Competition in Pittsburgh.

In 2008, DuoArtus gave their debut in New York's Carnegie Hall. Their repertoire spans the realm of music literature for flute and concert guitar. It ranges from Bach's flute sonatas to Bizet's "Carmen Fantasie" to Piazzola's "Histoire du Tango". Krzysztof Kaczka and Perry Schack have performed on five continents in places such as Carnegie Hall, Wellington Town Hall, and Munich's Herkulessaal.

Krzysztof Kaczka

Krzysztof Kaczka, the newly-appointed principal flutist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and First Prize winner at the 2009 Australian Flute Festival competition in Adelaide, was born in Torun, Poland. After graduating with highest honors from the Musikhochschule Munich, where his teacher was Marianne Henkel-Adorjan, he made his New York solo debut at Carnegie Recital Hall as the IBLA Grand Prize winner. His postgraduate studies were with Irena Grafenauer at the Mozarteum Salzburg University and with Wolfgang Schulz at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He also studied on the European Union's Erasmus Scholarship with Pierre Yves Artaud at the Conservatoire de Paris university. He was a resident artist at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada in 2006. He performed with Joel Smirnoff, Barry Shiffman, Pedja Muzijevic, Chen Halevi, Eliot Fisk, and musicians of the Munich Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, RSO Stockholm, and Warsaw Philharmonic. He participated in international competitions including Kobe, IBLA Grand Prize (1st Prize - Most Distinguished Artist Prize and Piazzolla Award), Padova (4th prize), Sydney Flute Festival (final), the NFA Competition in Pittsburgh (2nd prize), the Tansman Competition of Musical Personalities (final), and Concorso Internazionale "Citta di Barletta" (1st Prize and Gold Medals as soloist and chamber musician). He won scholarships by the Foundation of Culture in Warsaw, DAAD, Lions Club International, Yehudi Menuhin LMN Munich, Dartington Arts Center, and Top Wind London. Krzysztof has taken part in numerous music festivals at places like Sarasota, Hot Springs, and Warsaw. He was a laureate of the prestigious "Young Poland Award" of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland. He then became a member of the DuoArtus with German guitarist Peyrry Schack, where he released three CD's for ActePrealable Label in Warsaw including Jolivet's Concerto conducted by Henri Bonamy. He was a former principal flutist of the Filharmonia Sudecka in Poland and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in China. Since 2009, he has been the principal flutist of the Guangzhou Symphony, which is a top Chinese orchestra working with many people including Long Yu, Pinchas Zukerman, Charles Dutoit, Jiri Belohlavek, Lang Lang, Itzhak Perlman, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Mischa Maisky.

Perry Schack

Perry Schack was born in Munich in 1977. He studied with Franz Halasz at the Hochschule für Musik Augsburg, graduating Summa cum laude in 2001. In that same year, he began his studies at Mozarteum Salzburg University. Also in 2001, Perry Schack was the first European to win a major prize at the International Guitar Competition in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was also awarded the first prize for an outstanding interpretation of contemporary music. His additional accolades include a special prize for cultural activities awarded by Dr. Faltlhauser, the Bavarian Minister of Finance, and the second prize of the National Flute Association's 2006 Chamber Music Competition in Pittsburg, USA. In 2007, Perry Schack was the first prize winner of the 17th International Music Competition in Italy. He also received the prestigious Erasmus Foundation Scholarship in 2004 along with Alex Garrobe at Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelona and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Scholarship for 2001 to 2007. Perry Schack's concerts have been broadcast on the radio (SWR and B5) and on television (ZDF). He played with stage personalities such as guitarist Eliot Fisk Schloss (Mirabell, Salzburg) and Enrico de Paruta (Residenz München, Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg). Schack frequently performed both as a soloist and chamber musician in New York at Carnegie Hall, Washington DC, Sydney, Rome, Paris, Vienna, and Munich at Gasteig, Nymphenburg, and Herkulessaal.
