Doctor Smock Author(s) George Lemont Current status / schedule Finished Launch date 1975 End date 1985 Doctor Smock was an American daily syndicated newspaper comic strip created and penned by George Lemont (born in 1927). It was published from 1975 through 1985.
The central theme of the strip centered around the callous but humorous title character who became a doctor "...mostly so I could put a caduceus on my car and park in illegal zones without getting a ticket." [1] Numerous reoccurring references to stereotypical physician behavior and hospital discomfort (golf on Wednesday afternoon, cold instruments, paper gowns) belie the social satire and occasionally pointed criticism of a medical system that increasingly dehumanized both the patient and health care professional.[2]
