:"Earshot" may also refer to the vague distance from which something can be heard ("within earshot").

Earshot is an alternative metal band from Los Angeles, California, currently signed to Indegoot/Fontana/Universal Records. The band has released three albums: "Letting Go", "Two", and most recently, "The Silver Lining" on August 26, 2008.

History

1999-2003

The band formed in 1999, with the Kansas-bred Wil joining forces with guitarist Scott Kohler in L.A. Bassist Johnny Sprague and guitarist Mike Callahan joined the band shortly after their debut was completed, and new drummer Chas Stumbo came on board in 2004.

Singer-songwriter Wil was raised on classic rock: Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Black Sabbath, the Beatles, Cat Stevens, AC/DC, and Metallica are all all cited as influences and inspirations.Fact|date=May 2008 Wil laments the fact that albums don't seem to mean as much to young people as they did to him when he was growing up. "There seems to be an emotion lacking in music today," he believes. "There was such an honesty in the music of the '70s and early '90s."

The band's debut album, "Letting Go", featured the song "Get Away" received significant radio airplay, while the song "Headstrong" was featured in the motion picture "Queen of the Damned". After months of sharing stages with the likes of Staind, Kid Rock and Stone Temple Pilots [ [http://www.showandtellonline.com/_earshot/cd_letting_go.html Show & Tell - Earshot, "Letting Go" CD review ] ] [ [http://www.epinions.com/content_152707436164 Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Two [6/22 - Earshot at Epinions.com ] ] [ [http://www.roughedge.com/cdreviews/e/earshot.htm Rough Edge: Earshot CD Reviews ] ] , "Get Away" peaked at #4 on the charts and stayed in the Top 100 for over 60 weeks. Earshot returned to the studio in late 2002 after spending much of that year on the road.

2004-present

The band's second album, "Two", was released in 2004. It includes the breakthrough hit "Wait," which was featured on the "Madden NFL 2005" video game soundtrack and the "MX vs. ATV Unleashed" video game soundtrack. It was also featured in the DVD "Tampa Bay Lightning 2004 Stanley Cup Champions".

In early 2005, Earshot returned from the road in support of their second release. “No one expected another Earshot record after that” says vocalist Wil Martin. “We were essentially counted out by many. Our departure from Warner Brothers Records only added to our determination not to let corporate decisions determine our artistic and creative voice. After all, that’s what rock music is really all about... believing in yourself, overcoming adversity and taking that chance when the odds are against you.”

In early 2007, Earshot signed with Indegoot/Fontana/Universal Recordings. Produced by Brian Garcia and co-produced by Wil Martin, the band began the long and tedious task of putting together their nearly 2 yearlong gestations of song ideas.Fact|date=May 2008 Tracks on the upcoming album include “MisSunderstood,” “Closer,” “Pushing to Shove,” “Wasted,” “Don’t Hate Me,” "Go," and “Sometimes” of which the band's MySpace declares will have "massive hooks and loud guitars." [Information Obtained from Earshot's Official MySpace (May 2008)] The band posted its new single, "MisSunderstood," on their MySpace page at 12AM (EST) on May 13, 2008. The official nationwide radio release date for the single is May 26, 2008.
