Chartbusting 80s

"Chartbusting 80s" is a variety television show with a 1980s music theme. It is broadcast on community television station Channel 31 in Melbourne, Australia. It is the highest-rated program on that station. The show is hosted by Josie Parrelli, who is known for her extreme dress sense. Music journalist Jeff Jenkins (who Parrelli refers to as 'BR') also features on the show.

Chartbusting 80s features music clips from various artists from the '80s, live studio performances from local Melbourne bands (both cover and original bands), trivia segments, and interviews with the stars of yesteryear, both Australian and international.

History

Production of Chartbusting 80s started in May 2000. The show debuted on Melbourne screens Wednesday 1 November 2000 at 7pm. After four years of pre-recorded episodes, Chartbusting 80s went live on 4 March 2004.

In its history, Chartbusting 80s has attracted a cult following with average audiences of more than 100,000 per episode. Due to its ratings success, the show has attracted much media attention, and Channel 31 airs Chartbusting 80s twice a week in Melbourne even during its repeat season. In 2006, Chartbusting 80s went national with Channel 31 Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Mount Gambier also broadcasting the show. Chartbusting 80s has been picked up by Triangle TV in New Zealand and started broadcasting in September 2006. 2006 also saw Chartbusting 80s become an independent production being produced under Josie's production company Lady Scorpio Productions.

The show has produced 5 DVDs. The first DVD won an ARIA gold disc for record sales.
