Dalara garuda is the tentative name of a large wasp in the genus Dalara, family Crabronidae, sub-family Larrinae.[1] It was discovered in 2011 by Lynn Kimsey, director of the Bohart Museum of Entomology and professor of entomology at the University of California, Davis, on the Mekongga Mountains in the southeastern part of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.[1] It was simultaneously discovered by Michael Ohl[2], curator and head of entomology at the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin, in museum collections.

The species is being described by Kimsey and Ohl, who proposed naming it after Garuda, the national symbol of Indonesia, a mythical warrior.[1]

Males are about 6.4 cm (2.5 in) long with very large jaws.[1] Females are smaller but still larger than other species in the sub-family.[1] Both sexes are shiny black with black wings. It is a solitary predator of other insect species.[1]
