John Percy Vyvian Dacre Balsdon

John Percy Vyvian Dacre Balsdon (born 4 November 1901 at Bideford (Devon); died 18 September 1977) was an English ancient historian.

After attending Exeter School, he studied at Exeter College in Oxford, where he taught Ancient History from 1927 to 1969. Since 1967, he was a member of the British Academy. His research was primarily in Roman History.[1] He also wrote novels using the name Dacre Balsdon; his academic works gave his name as J. P. V. D. Balsdon.
