XML Standards

DDEX has developed a series of XML-base standards for the communication of Metadata between record companies, music rights societies and online retailers[2]:

  • Electronic Release Notification Message Suite Standard, which enables the communication by record labels of metadata about releases (e.g. artist name, album name, track names, release dates, etc.) and their associated commercial terms to online retailers;
  • Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite Standard which enables the communication of sales information from online retailers to record companies and collection societies ;
  • Musical Work Licensing Message Suite Standard which enables record labels and online retailers to obtain licences for the use of musical works, usually from a music rights society.

Communication Standards

To support the communication of XML messages, DDEX is developing message exchange protocols based on Web Services or FTP.
