Background

The 2010 budget imposed pay cuts on public sector workers. There were a few days of strikes[1]

Details

Despite a background of layoffs and pay cuts in the private sector, the government agreed not to impose public sector layoffs or further public sector pay cuts[2]. The public sector unions agreed to co-operate on wide scale reforms of the public sector. As of August 2011 there have been no lay offs in the civil service despite the severe state of the national finances.
