Clarinet Concerto (Carter)

This clarinet concerto is a work by the American composer Elliott Carter written in 1996. This clarinet concerto is one of the most popular 20th century clarinet concertos and has been played around the world with great acclaim. This work was premiered in 1996 with the clarinetist Alain Damiens and the conductor Pierre Boulez by the Ensemble InterContemporain. This work was premiered along with other works to mark the 20th anniversary of the ensemble.
Elliott Carter said that he had the unusual orchestral scoring to make the clarinet the sole focus of the concerto. Deutsche Grammophon has recorded this concerto along with Elliott Carter's Symphonia with Michael Collins and the London Sinfonietta. This concerto is in 7 movements:

  2. Deciso
  3. Tranquillo
  4. Presto
  5. Largo
  6. Giocoso
  7. Agitato
