Christopher P. Lynch

Christopher P. Lynch currently serves as the Vice President and General Manager of Hewlett Packards' Database Business Unit, a role he accepted after the acquisition by HP of his latest start-up endeavor Vertica Systems in February 2011.[1] Mr. Lynch was tapped by Vertica’s investors in 2010 to extend Vertica's technical leadership, channel partnerships and international expansion. He made significant changes to Vertica's market focus, management and board, leading to a 2x revenue growth and the company's eventual acquisition.

Mr. Lynch's career consists of the following major stages:

  • F5 Networks, where he was Senior Vice President of Data Solutions
  • Acopia Networks, where he was CEO from 2002 until the company was acquired by F5 Networks for over $200M in September 2007
  • Cisco Systems, where he was Vice President of Worldwide Content Delivery Networking
  • ArrowPoint Communications, where he served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Support. Lynch was instrumental in ArrowPoint’s initial public offering, leading the organization’s revenue growth from zero to $250 million sales annually over 18 months and establishing 60 sales and support offices worldwide. ArrowPoint was subsequently acquired by Cisco Systems for $5.7 billion in June 2000.
  • Lucent Technologies, where he was Vice President of North and South American sales for the Gigabit Ethernet Products Unit.
  • Prominet, where he was Vice President of American Sales. Lynch built a sales and channels organization that generated revenue at an annual rate of $40 million over a seven-month period, which led to the company's acquisition by Lucent Technologies for $200 million in January 1998.
  • Lynch has also held sales leadership positions at Bay Networks, Wellfleet Communications, and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Lynch earned his MBA from the McCallum Graduate School of Business at Bentley University in 1991 and his bachelor’s degree in business management from Suffolk University in 1986. In 2011, Mr. Lynch received an honorary doctor of commercial science degree from Bentley University, and had the opportunity to address the graduates during the commencement ceremony.

Lynch has also invested in various start-up companies. Some of his recent investments include PowerInBox and Kinvey.
