Nagpur Chattisgarh Railway

Nagpur Chattisgarh Railway

Nagpur Chattisgarh Railway was a 149 miles metre-gauge line owned by the provincial government and operated by the state railways. The line ran from Nagpur via Tumsar - Gondia and Dongargarh to Rajnandgaon.[1]

The initial section from Nagpur to Tumsar was opened on 6th July 1880, continuing to Tirora on 21st February 1881, Gondia on 18th May 1881, Amgaon on 25th November 1881 and completed to Rajnandgaon on 16th February 1882.[2]

The Nagpur Chattisgarh Railway was transferred to state ownership to be operated by the Bengal Nagpur Railway in year 1888 and was converted into Broad gauge, which marked beginning of Bengal Nagpur Railway. The new track from Rajnandgaon to Asansol was later laid 1888 onwards.[3] The Nagpur Chhatisgarh Railway was thus merged into Bengal Nagpur Railway.
