Cheap-Textbooks.com is a web site that collects and displays textbook prices. The site collects new, used, rental and international version prices from over 30 textbook sellers. The initial search tool was created by Robert Jones in 1999 when he was a student at the University of California Berkeley. It was created as a personal tool to quickly compare textbook prices between online book sellers. The initial price lookup tool was a desktop widget but was put online as a web tool at the urging of fellow students.[1]

In 2009, the site was expanded to include a report of sell back prices. In 2010, an Android application was released that added the ability to find textbooks at local stores and libraries, as well as online. The company reports Android app downloads at over 10,000.[2] In 2011 a web application was released for iPad and iPhone.[3]. Also in 2011 digital textbooks (eBooks) were added to the sites comparison reports.

The company is based in Oregon City, Oregon. The company reports that the use of price comparison sites by students has been increasing.[4]
