Early years
Father and son (Charles and Louis) came to old Allegheny, where a store was established in Federal Street. The store was located just north of the "old hay market" in about 1865. It would become the exclusive glass shop of C. Reizenstein and Sons. Louis made 48 Trans Atlantic trips, visiting most European cities starting in 1882. By 1885 the Reizenstein family lived on Fremont Street in Allegheny City.[2]

Louis Reizenstein President 50 years b. 1856 d. 1947[1]
- Louis Reizenstein was an internationally known glass and china authority and for almost 50 years, head of the Charles Reizenstein Sons. In 1927, King Albert of Belgium made Louis Reizenstein Commander Order of the Crown for giving ideas to the Belgium's glass industry.[1]

The Reizenstin family was involved in social reform. The Reizenstein family business was used as a means for philanthropic work in Allegheny and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Freda Reizenstein (Mrs. Charles L.), communal worker; b. Pittsburgh, Pa., ca. 1887; former pres. Pittsburgh Conf. of Jewish Women's organizations, active in other organizations for welfare of women and children; d. Pittsburgh, Pa., Jan. 26, 1946.[4]
Florence Reizenstein Wife of Louis J Reizenstein. Significance Florence Reizenstein's list of service includes the state and city human relations commissions, the NAACP, the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Urban League, where she co-founded the Negro Educational Emergency Drive, or NEED, which has distributed hundreds of scholarships over the years, and Women in Urban Crisis.[5] Schenley Middle School named after Reizenstein.
