"The Man from M.A.R.S." is a 1922 silent science fiction film. This film is notable for using the 3-D process called Teleview, similar to today's field sequential 3-D. After its initial release the title was changed to Radio-Mania. The Man from M.A.R.S was directed by Roy William Neil.

Teleview

Was used only for the showing of The Man from Mars and has not been heard of since. It was invented by Laurens Hammond and William F. Cassidy. The system was used in the Sewlyn Theatre in New York. Teleview was very complex for its time as it was a way to view stereoscopic images through alternate frame sequencing. The projectors ran interlocked with the left/right images being projected one after the other in repeating succession. The audience had the special viewer attached to their arm rest of their chair. They simply had to position the viewer in front of their eyes and look through to get a 3-D image. The viewer ran in the same succession as the projector creating the 3-D illusion. The show was a success but after initial release Teleview all together disappeared as well as the movie.
