Giuliano clan

Giuliano clan

The Giuliano clan is a Neapolitan Camorra clan which operates from the central areas of Naples, beginning from the Forcella-San Gaetano districts until the area of Magdalena, in Piazza Garibaldi.

History

The historical Giuliano dynasty was founded by a Camorrista named Luigi Giuliano. He had eleven children, one of whom was Pio Vittorio Giuliano who became a well known smuggler of cigarettes. He then had many children who engaged in sumggling cigarettes and contrabands after the end of the Second World War. However, not al were overwhelmed by the spiral of the criminal underworld. The children of Pio Vittorio Giuliano included Luigi aka "'or re", Guglielmo aka "'or stuorto", Nunzio, Carmine aka "'or Iyon", Salvatore aka "'or mutton", Raffaele aka "'or Zui", Erminia aka "Celeste", Anna, Patrizia and Silvana.

As part of the Nuova Famiglia alliance, the clan fought and worked hard to destroy Raffaele Cutolo and his Nuova Camorra Organizzata from the early to mid eighties, succeeding at the end.

In the mid nineties, the numerous wars against the Contini, Licciardi and Lo Russo clans, coupled with numerous defections to Italian Justice have cost the clan of eleven children, six men, five women as well as a host of grandchildren and relatives accquired. In the late eighties, a massive sensation was created in the Italian media when Argentinian football star, Diego Maradona was photographed having a drink with some of the Giuliano brothers.

The long ensuing conflict has seemed to have finally put an end to the Giuliano clan's reign, when taking advantage of the absenteeism of the boss, detention or fugitives, some young Camorristi tried to wrest control from the clan. Against them were deployed uncles and cousins, but Michele Mazzarella, the youngest son of Vincenzo Mazzarella, the boss of San Giovanni a Teduccio, entered the Forcella clan after having married Marianna, the daughter of Luigi and Carmela Marzano. This caused an inevitable rift within the organization and especially within the family. Moreover, a severe police crackdown resulted after the accidental death of Annalisa Durante, a young lady who was killed by mistake in Forcella on March 27, 2004.
