Rail transport in Yemen

Rail transport in Yemen does not currently exist outside plans and proposals. The first of these appeared in the days of the Ottoman Empire, when it was suggested that the Hejaz railway might eventually be extended as far as Yemen, but this never eventuated. More recently, in 2005, the Yemeni government began to investigate the possibility of constructing rail connections as part of a larger upgrade to transportation infrastructure.
