For his biography of Michelangelo's arduous work painting the ceiling of the Sistine chapel ("Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling"), Ross was nominated in 2003 for a National Book Critics Circle Award. "Brunelleschi’s Dome" was on the bestseller list of not only the "New York Times" but also the "Boston Globe" and "San Francisco Chronicle" bestseller lists and was the recipient of several awards including "The 2000 Book Sense Nonfiction Book of the Year."

Born in 1962, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, Ross King decided to pursue a career in academia. In 1992, he received a Ph.D. in Education focusing on eighteenth-century English literature from York University in Toronto. After graduation, he moved to England to take a research position at the University of London. While working in London, Ross came to the realization that his job prospects were few and far between and decided to try his hand at writing a historical novel in the time period he had been researching. His first novel, "Domino", was published in 1995. [Contemporary Authors Online]
