Konrad Schaub

Konrad Schaub

Konrad Schaub was born in Edmonton, Canada, as was Allison MacLean. The two skaters began skating together in 1981. They worked their way up the Canadian categories from Juvenile to Senior in the discipline of ice dancing. Of particular note was the year 1988, when the pair represented Canada at Junior Worlds in Brisbane, Australia to finish in 4th place. They competed in Mentana, Italy at the international Autumn Trophy Mezzaluna that same year, placing 3rd. The year 1992 saw this couple make a major change. They defected to Vienna, Austria and began training under the tutelage of Olympic coach Peter Schubl. While they had no national ties to Austria, Allison was granted citizenship in 1994, enabling the team to compete in international competitions representing their new homeland. As the champions of Austria, MacLean and Schaub went on to win international medals as well as the hearts of their audiences. They represented Austria at European Championships, as well as the World Championships in 1995 and 1996. MacLean and Schaub were known for their crowd-pleasing style. Their expression of music rivaled the world's best.1996 was their last year of competing. Coincidentally, their final competition, the 1996 World Championships, were held in their hometown of Edmonton. Upon their retirement from competitive skating, they were the world's longest standing team, having skated together for 15 years.
