East Tennessee Children's Hospital is the area's only comprehensive regional pediatric center [http://www.etch.com/crpc.cfm] , the state's highest level of certification. Serving patients from birth to 21 years, ETCH is a private, not-for-profit 152 bed facility in central Knoxville, Tennessee.

History

First opening its doors to the community in 1937, ETCH was known as the Knox County Crippled Children's Hospital. It took on its current name in 1955 after further renovations brought its bed count to 52. By 1970, a new facility with 74 beds opened at the hospital's current location. A fourth and fifth floor were added in 1975 increasing its capacity to 96 and then 122 beds respectively. A Unit sqft | 10000 | 0 emergency department was completed in 1981 as well as an adjoined medical office building.

Services

ETCH offered 29 subspecialties and 90 pediatric subspecialists to 143,000 patients in the 2006-2007 fiscal year.

Community Involvement

Fantasy of Trees

Since 1985, the Fantasy of Trees, a yearly Christmas event with activities and entertainment for families has brought the hospital USD|4.6m and hosted over a million visitors. Volunteers give over 150,000 hours annually [http://www.etch.com/fantasyvol.cfm] to make Fantasy Knoxville's premier holiday event.
